Canfield's Sporting Goods, located in Omaha, Nebraska, was founded in 1946 by Leroy Canfield (aka Mr. C) as an Army surplus store known only as Canfield's. It was located in the back of his father's tailor shop. By 1949 the store had outgrown that location and moved to 512 N. 16th Street. The people of Omaha knew that Canfield's on 16th Street was the place to buy all their Army surplus gear. Later, the store grew to include sporting goods and the need for a larger building became evident. In 1994 Canfield's moved to its current location on West Center Road. The store now boasts an extensive fishing and hunting department that includes, besides fishing and hunting gear and ammunition, a large paintball and airsoft department, metal detectors, and optics and electronics, like binoculars, scopes, and GPS receivers. Canfield's large clothing area stocks both work and outdoor sports apparel for men, women, and kids. Canfield's camping department carries gear for rock climbing, backpacking, and car camping as well as a complete travel area, and a large footwear section carrying work boots, waders, sandals, and backpacking and casual footwear. Canfield's also boasts one of the largest Scout departments in the Midwest. The gift area has a wide array of gifts for any outdoors person, including Terry Redlin prints and collectibles, Sandicast dogs and other animals, Anheuser-Busch collectibles, and many other items. Behind the front counter, as always, is an interesting assortment of items, including multi-tools, knives, and swords. You can also purchase both Nebraska and Iowa hunting and fishing licenses and Nebraska state park stickers. Gift certificates are available in any amount, and Canfield's even has a gift registry! Long-time Canfield's clients tell us that although we've grown, much about Canfield's remains the same, and that's just the way they like it!
